Discount Calculation means calculating the amount that is reduced from the original fee or payable amount.
In the Course Fee practical, discount is used along with lump-sum payment to calculate the final amount payable by the student.
In simple words:
Original Fee
↓
Discount
↓
Amount Reduced
↓
Final Payable Amount
A discount is a reduction given on the original fee or amount.
For example:
Original Fee = ₹22,000
Discount = ₹2,000
Then:
Final Amount = ₹22,000 − ₹2,000
= ₹20,000
So, after applying the discount, the student has to pay ₹20,000.
Excel makes discount calculation easy because the original amount and discount can be entered into separate cells and a formula can calculate the final amount automatically.
| Particular | Amount |
|---|---|
| Total Course Fee | ₹22,000 |
| Discount | ₹2,000 |
| Final Payable Amount | ₹20,000 |
If the discount amount is already given:
Discount Amount = Given Discount
For example:
Total Fee = ₹22,000
Discount = ₹2,000
The discount amount is simply:
₹2,000
Suppose:
B2 = Total Course Fee
B3 = Discount
Use:
=B2-B3
B2 = ₹22,000
B3 = ₹2,000
=B2-B3
↓
₹20,000
Therefore:
Final Payable Amount = ₹20,000

=Total Fee-Discount
Discount calculation is particularly relevant when the student makes a lump-sum payment.
Example:
Total Fee = ₹22,000
Lump Sum Discount = ₹2,000
─────────
Final Payable = ₹20,000
Excel formula:
=B6-B7
Where:
B6 = Total Fee
B7 = Discount
Suppose the fee structure is:
| Particular | Amount |
|---|---|
| Course Fee | ₹20,000 |
| Admission Fee | ₹1,000 |
| Prospectus Fee | ₹200 |
| Examination Fee | ₹800 |
=SUM(B2:B5)
Result:
₹22,000
Discount = ₹2,000
=B6-B7
Result:
₹20,000
So the complete calculation is:

| Amount reduced from original fee | Amount remaining after discount |
| Example: ₹2,000 | Example: ₹20,000 |

DISCOUNT = AMOUNT REDUCED
